Amazon Prime Day gaming laptop deals will return to our shelves in the summer and things are already looking good for 2024's sales. That's because we've got two years of machines worth buying right now, as the latest releases all feature minor power upgrades over the previous roster. With older devices seeing more and more discounts as time goes on, and newer models offering a range of external upgrades there's going to be plenty to choose from come Amazon's sale.

We've had our hands on some of the best gaming laptops on the market, and we constantly watch out for gaming laptop deals across the web - in other words, we know a good offer when we see one. The PC sphere is often one of the best served in Prime Day gaming deals, so there's plenty of get your head around. To help, we're rounding up everything we expect to see from this year's offers just below.

When the time comes, we'll be bringing you all our favorite Prime Day gaming laptop deals - from budget-minded entry level rigs all the way through to RTX 4090 powerhouses. So stay tuned for more when those summer sales kick off.

What to expect from Prime Day gaming laptop deals in 2024

We're anticipating big things from this year's summer sale. Last year's heavy hitters have spent more time on the shelves and with a new roster of machines muscling their way in (and taking their own discounts), prices could look particularly strong come Prime Day. If you're not fussed about picking up an OLED display or any extra AI features, we'd heavily recommend checking out 2023's roster of gaming laptops in this year's sale. 2024's upgrades are minor, with iterative improvements under the hood and - at least in the case of the 2024 Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 - sometimes worse performance overall.

At the top end of the scale, we'd recommend keeping a close eye on the Alienware M18 or Asus ROG Strix Scar 18. These machines mean business, but they carry the price tags to match. If you're looking to spend a little less, the Alienware is going to be your best bet. While we don't see too many discounts on this newer release day to day, the $1,699.99 starting price is primed to dip to around $1,499.99 come the summer. Meanwhile the Scar 18, the most powerful gaming laptop we've tested yet, will likely stay in the $2,000 arena. At MSRP you can pick up an RTX 4080 model for $2,499.99 - a cost that could, if we're lucky, take a journey down to $2,199 or $2,099.

At a mid-range level, we're going to be paying close attention to the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (both the 2023 G14 and the 2024 G14). The earlier model has been spotted at just $999 in an RTX 4060 configuration in the last few months, but can be configured all the way up to an RTX 4090 if you're pushing the boat out. However, we were incredibly impressed with the new design and OLED display on the newer model, and that's only just started to see price drops of its own. Both of these laptops are serious contenders for Prime Day gaming laptop deals in 2024.

At the budget end of the spectrum we'd recommend keeping a close eye on RTX 4060 prices. Yes, RTX 30-Series machines like the Asus TUF Dash F15 and Acer Nitro 5 are going to be seeing some particularly low prices this year thanks to newer hardware taking over. However, the value of upgrading to the latest components far outweighs the costs saved - especially considering we're starting to see prices landing in similar territories between the two generations.

Should you buy a 2024 gaming laptop on Prime Day?

Many gamers in the market for a new portable rig will be looking to this summer's Prime Day offers for their first round of discounts on 2024's releases. However, whether you should jump in for the upgrade this summer comes down to the machine you're using at the moment and how quickly you need to a new machine.

What are you using at the moment?

If you're using a 2023 device you generally won't need to buy a new gaming laptop on Prime Day. This year's updates include very minor power bumps in Intel's 14th generation processors and there aren't any new graphics cards in play. The only reason we'd recommend grabbing a new device is if the current roster of OLED displays is calling particularly loud to you.

If you're still running an RTX 30-Series machine then your answer is less clear cut. Yes, 2024 gaming laptops are the best on the market right now, but because of the relatively small changes under the hood 2023's offerings are packing much better value for money overall. These gaming laptops have had plenty more time on the shelves and are more likely to take higher discounts as a result. You might miss out on some display features like high refresh rate OLEDs, but if you're going for bang for buck you don't need the latest releases.

How quickly do you need your gaming laptop?

If you can hold out until Black Friday you will, in all likeliness, find better prices on the shelves. The fall sales are a much bigger deal with heavier price drops and more widespread savings. On top of that, all of these gaming laptops will have spent much more time on the market and will themselves be more vulnerable to bigger discounts as well.

Of course, if your current rig falls apart as soon as you load up your favorite game then you'll benefit from the extra months with your gaming laptop.

When will Amazon Prime Day gaming laptop deals begin?

Amazon Prime Day typically falls on the second week of July, but that's no guarantee and the retailer likes to keep its cards close to its giant online chest. Still, previous years have all gravitated towards this timeline, so we're willing to bet we'll see official sales kick off around the week of July 8.

Do I need a Prime Membership to access Prime Day gaming laptop deals?

In order to make the most of the Prime Day gaming laptop deals, you'll need to have an Amazon Prime membership. Fortunately, there's a free trial available in both the US and UK for you to give the service a try risk-free ahead of the event. Through it, you'll have access to not only next-day delivery but also the company's coveted video service.

What's important to state, though, is that many other retailers will be vying for some attention of their own, as we generally see storefronts such as Dell, Walmart, and Best Buy (US) as well as Currys, Laptops Direct, Box and Argos (UK) getting in on the gaming laptop deals action.

Do gaming laptops go on sale on Amazon Prime Day?

They certainly do, but here's the kicker - we generally see the best deals off Amazon. In the US, Best Buy, Dell and Newegg have all traditionally offered a wider range of gaming laptop deals during Prime Day, and Amazon's own sales can feel a little underwhelming by contrast. If you're in the UK, we'd recommend watching Ebuyer, Currys, and Very.
