Is Destiny 2 down?
Destiny 2 is currently down for maintenance in the run up to The Final Shape
Destiny 2 is currently down for scheduled maintenance to prepare the servers for the imminent arrival of The Final Shape expansion. It's going to add lots of new things to Destiny 2, including a new campaign set in an entirely new location, a new enemy faction to fight, another Raid, and tons of weapons and loot to chase. But that'll have to wait until the servers are back online. Here’s what you need to know about the current Destiny 2 server status prior to the launch of The Final Shape.
Is Destiny 2 down?
Currently, yes. Destiny 2 is down for scheduled maintenance before the launch of the next expansion, Destiny 2 The Final Shape.
DESTINY 1 & 2 MAINTENANCE ❖ Update 8.0.0.1 Maintenance has begun. REMAINING TIMELINE ❖ Player Removal: 9:30 AM PDT (-7 UTC) ❖ Expected log in: June 4, 10 AM ❖ Expected end: June 4, 12 PM More info: https://t.co/48Mjp1drx7June 3, 2024
Players should be able to log back in at 5pm UTC on June 4 (check our Destiny 2 weekly reset guide to see when that is in your time zone), but maintenance is not scheduled to end until 7pm UTC, so there could be some issues and Destiny 2 error codes during those extra two hours. Make sure you keep an eye on the Bungie Help Twitter account for updates.
Note that during this time the Destiny 2 API will be down, so you won't be able to use the Destiny 2 app and other third-party services, such as Destiny Item Manager. This means you won’t be able to pull gear from your fault or collect bounties using a mobile device.
Destiny 2 issues to expect after the The Final Shape
No matter how much Bungie prepares, there are always going to be some issues, even if they're not very widespread. Server queues, connection instability, and error codes should all be expected on The Final Shape launch day. Frustrating though these issues are, they aren't a problem exclusive to Destiny 2. Big online games always seem to somewhat break at launch because it's virtually impossible to avoid day-one issues, as innumerable game developers have explained. Here’s what you should do to minimize your Destiny 2 server woes as you try to log in for The Final Shape:
- Hold your place in the queue: Once you’ve reached a server queue, I advise that you simply leave the game to do its thing. Obviously, don’t close the game or turn your PC or console off.
- Be patient!: There’s no point getting angry about these issues as they’re impossible to fix on your end and you're almost certainly not the only person experiencing them. Keep checking the Bungie Help and other Destiny accounts on Twitter for up-to-date information about technical issues.
- Minimize loading screens and multiplayer: Once you’re into the game, I recommend sticking to the campaign and avoiding any multiplayer activities. Previous experience has taught me that every trip to orbit or to the Tower risks some kind of error code.
